Dag Nabbit . . . where the heck is Copperopolis?~by The Copperolis Curmudgeon

Copperopolis, CA....Now for those of us that have been in Copper for a while the question has become where is Copperopolis? The towns’ historical center is the Main Street and heck we even have a Post Office for zip code 95228 on Main Street along with a good ...number of State registered historical monuments and a new 150th Anniversary wall next to between the museum and the armory. The cemetery is over off Reeds’ Turnpike....

If we go shopping for food in Copper we go the IGA market at the plaza which also has a bank, the hardware store, Copper Clinic, dentist, Mexican restaurant, furniture store, Computer repair and the Sheriffs substation on Spangler Lane off O’Brynes Ferry Road south of old town.

Up on the hill is Robins Feed Store, Chandlers’ Napa Auto, Marks Marine repair, Scibellis Wood Works and the Tulloch Church. Wilsons landscape is behind the IGA.

The hub of activity at the strip mall on Copper Cove and Feather Drive is where the Pizza, Mexican food, Real Estate, Insurance, Dr. French, workout center, library, service station / Qwik Serve and the Sports Pub can be found.

There are three gated communities south on O’Brynes Ferry with Drifters’ Marina and the last business before Tuolumne County the Tulloch Lodge . . . is that place open???

Saddle Creek has the Clubhouse Restaurant that is trying to pull us folks on the outside of the gates inside with $10.00 buffet night on Wednesdays . . . interesting how the economy goes in the tank and now the outsiders are welcome . . . never felt that welcome before.

So herein lays the confusion about locating Copperopolis? A couple of years ago a sign showed up out on Highway 4 at Little John Road and in huge beautiful letters it announced you had finally arrived at Copperopolis. Really? . . . a number of us thought about adding another sign under this new sign that said “One mile ahead” because Copperopolis had never been there . . . EVER. But there is Town Square and a new Shell Service station . . .

Now my daughter talked me into joining the 21st century . . . she took me to the phone store and we bought the old man an IPhone . . . I now know how to turn it on and I can now do that without taking a picture of myself or accidently dialing 911 . . . the dispatchers were getting tired of that . . .

So I am playing with this new device and some App wants to use my exact location to update the services it would provide me . . . I clicked “allow” as I am supposed to . . . and it shows my location as the “Government Office” at 145 Stone Street in Copperopolis? So the Copper Government is in Town Square??? When did this happen?

So again I ask . . . dag nabbit . . . where the heck is Copperopolis???

I know just sit here and be quiet . . .?
