The 2011 Winter Games Are Almost Here....Pre-Clinic This Weekend
Bear Valley, CA....Bear Valley Mountain, the Central Sierra’s premier family skiing and snowboarding resort, has partnered with the California Senior Games Association (CSGA) to host the 2011 Senior Winter Games. The games provide male and female sports enthusiasts 50 years old and up with an opportunity to compete in an Olympic-style event that offers competition in downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and more. This year’s games will be held on the main mountain and in the village area, March 11 – 13, 2011. In addition to hosting the games, Bear Valley will help .......
competitors hone their skills by providing a series of clinics on February 6 and March 6.
“We are committed to providing winter sports enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels with opportunities to get the most out of their mountain experiences. The Senior Winter Games gives advanced, intermediate and beginners a chance to experience the excitement of Olympic-style competition,” said Jim Gentling, general manager of Bear Valley Mountain. “The Senior Winter Games and the recently announced opening of our new 400-acre Dardanelles Vista Bowl ski area are two major attractions for newcomers and loyal Bear Valley enthusiasts alike to come enjoy the mountain during the 2010-11 season. With 1,680 acres of skiable terrain, Bear Valley Mountain truly provides something for everyone.”
Seniors who compete in the games will have an opportunity to participate in a wide range of challenging competitions:
* Giant Slalom – Ski, Snowboard and Telemark
* 10k and 5k Nordic Race – Classic Striding and Skating
* Slalom
* Dual Slalom
* Sprint - a short distance race for both Cross Country skating and snowshoers

About the National Senior Games Association
The Games are operated by NSGA, a non profit organization, and member of the US Olympic Committee. Seven men and women started the Senior Games in 1985, as National Senior Olympics Organization (NSOO). The first Games in 1987 were held in St. Louis where 100,000 people watched Bob Hope in the opening ceremonies and 2,500 athletes compete at the St. Louis Riverfront Arch. In 1990 an agreement was made with US Olympic Committee to eliminate term “Olympic” and change their name to US National Senior Sports Organization, and known today as National Senior Games Association, with a corporate office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
