Search & Rescue Volunteers Wanted!
Calaveras County Search and Rescue (CCSAR) wants you! Our team has about 30 active volunteers ranging in age from 20 to 70 years old. These men and women come from all walks of life (firemen, law enforcement officers, retirees, nurses, white and blue collar workers, etc.), and have varied individual skills. But the common denominator among them all is a love of the outdoors and the desire to help people. .....

Because CCSAR is an all volunteer organization, its members cannot respond to all search and rescue calls due to work or family commitments. To provide adequate response, the team needs to recruit many members. New recruits increase availability for emergencies, and that means better service to our community.
Medical aid, navigation, search, and rope & river rescue are just a few of the skills we can help you develop as a new volunteer. Whatever your experience and background, CCSAR has an extensive training program to help you gain the competencies needed for search and rescue.
SAR emergency services involve locating and evacuating lost or missing persons in Calaveras County and often neighboring counties. Search and rescue occurs in all types of weather, day or night. The team is skilled in tracking through forested and mountainous terrain; on foot, snow shoes, or skis. We’re proficient in high and low angle rope rescue, swift water and cave rescue. We also support law and fire services involving over 150 miles of highway, 6 river crossings, and 8 major tributary crossing in the county.
Joining is simple – contact Ted at ted@calaverassar.org, or call the sheriff’s office at (209) 754-6500 and ask for Greg Stark. Then come attend one of our monthly training meetings held in Arnold and meet your teammates. Additional information can be found on the CCSAR website at www.calaverassar.org.
