Judging Chairs for a Good Cause...."Chairs for Charity" Event Saturday January 29th!~by Patrick Works

Angels Camp, CA....Judging for this year's 'Chairs For Charity' event started tonight at the Mercantile in downtown Angels Camp. Artists, community luminaries, and patrons of the arts and our community from three counties focused their attention on furniture tranformed into art. Simple chairs had been tranformed into vehicles of expression by dozens of talented people of our community. Those'Chairs for Charity' will be offered next week as auction items at the 'Chairs for Charity' fundraiser at the San Andreas Town Hall.....

The Calaveras Community Foundation and the Calaveras County Arts Council, together with Soroptomists of Calaveras County, will present an event next week at the San Andreas Town Hall that hopes to raise funds for many local causes serving our youth a,nd the enrichment of life.

'Chairs for Charity' is an opportunity for all of us to enjoy beauty and expression...and to answer it in kind by giving something back to our community.

Merita Callaway, Lucy Thein, Don Urbanus and Patrick Works of ThePineTree.net, were the judges tonight. As we arrived we were met by bright faces, incredible food provide by the new chef at the Mercantile, and a crowd that exceeded all expectations from all the organizations sponsoring the event and by the Mercantile staff.

While tonight's public turnout was an artistic endorsement by local figures of note, the return for the labor, talent, and love by the many artists who've put so much of themselves into this project, and into their community, remains to be seen.

Top ten in tonight's judging of the Chairs for Charity are as follows:

1st Place: Kaaren Nelson of Arnold, Charity: SICC, "Rockin' with the Bears" (black rocking chair with painted bears)

2nd Place: Lori Kelly of San Andreas, Charity: CCAC / Gallery Group..."Mardi Gras Butterfly" (butterfly, purple/green with masks)

3rd Place: Peter Kelly of San Andreas, Charity: CCAC...."Art" (red, blue, yellow chair that spells ART)

4th Place: Peter Kelly of San Andreas, Charity: CCAC...."Rockin Robin" Bird Lounge

5th Place: Marilyn Hindsdale of San Andreas..."Wicker Welcome" watercolor painting

6th Place: Krystal Kesterson, Charity: My own school..."Jill" (of Jack and Jill) (acrylic paint, highly decorated)

7th Place: Terri Bishop of Mt. Ranch..."School Daze" (antique school desk in blue)

8th Place: Dale Huey, Charity: SICC..."Eureka!" (painted gold rush scenes)
