Nanik Places 1st at the Dream Tournament
Kentfield, CA.....On Monday, January 17, 2011, Bret Harte Senior and Wrestler, 140lbs Devin Nanik defeated number one seed Joe Duran of Porterville by pin at 3:51. “Once again, Nanik came in as the underdog and made an impression,” said Bret Harte Head Coach Zach Abernathy. “This was a good tournament for him.” The Dream tournament is a new tournament, named in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The tournaments mission was to draw wrestlers from the strong central valley sections to wrestle against the top wrestlers from the San Francisco Bay Area.....

“We saw wrestlers, and schools, we’ve never seen before,” stated Abernathy. “This was a good preview of the seeding for State.”
All three Bullfrogs faced off against top ranked wrestlers from a variety of sections in Northern California.
“We don’t see much leg ridding in the Bay Area,” stated Santa Clara Coach Steve Garcia. “Having schools like Bret Harte come down and wrestle it gives our kids some experience before the State level.”
Also medaling for the Bullfrogs were junior 152lbs Tanner Sherrow (4th place) and senior 119lbs Carson Homuth (5th place).
“We’ve learned a lot in this tournament of the competition in the other sections that we don’t usually see,” said Abernathy. “All three wrestlers had to overcome different wrestling styles.”
Bret Harte will travel to Amador to continue Mother Lode League wrestling on Wednesday, January 19. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 6pm.
