The Calaveras Visitors Bureau has been in lengthy negotiations with the City on Angels on renegotiating their lease on the Visitors Center in Downtown Angels Camp. There has been a huge outpouring of support from the business community for the CVB to stay in their current location. The original agreement was an in-kind arrangement where the CVB had use of the facility for marketing the City and area. The City because of budget constraints now wants fair market rent to be paid for the facility. An agreement in principal had been met when it broke down over details.

The majority of Visitors Bureau's activities are outbound marketing with only a percentage of it's efforts in face to face contact with the 13,000 or so annual visits to the Visitors Center. The Visitors Bureau had reentered into negotiations with the City for them to stay in their current location and continue to operate the Visitors Center. Negotiations had broken off after the CVB decided it resources could be marshaled more effectively by concentrating on outbound marketing and moving to a small office space nearby.

The City contacted the Chamber and asked them to put in a bid on operating the Visitors Center. They have submitted a proposal and now it will be up to the City to decide if it will be the Chamber of Commerce or the Visitors Bureau who will be smiling and greeting visitors looking for information.
