Calaveras Visitors Bureau to Relocate...Visitor's Center to Close

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Visitors Bureau (CVB) Board of Directors announced today that the CVB will be relocating its offices to another location in downtown Angels Camp and closing the visitor’s center.  According to CVB Board President, Darrell Slocum, “After careful consideration, the CVB Board concluded that while the visitor’s center provides a valuable service, the cost of operating it significantly impacts the marketing budget. The primary function of the CVB is marketing Angels Camp and Calaveras County to tourists, potential tourists and those influencing and directing travel decisions. That needs to remain our primary focus.”...

A partnership created in 2000 between the City of Angels Camp and the CVB gave the CVB use of the building rent-free in exchange for maintaining the public restrooms and operating a visitor’s center daily. Recently, due to a budget shortfall, the City asked the CVB to pay rent of approximately $1100.00 per month. The CVB Board concluded that it is in the best interest of their membership to seek a location offering offices only to maximize the CVB budget.

CVB Executive Director Lisa Mayo adds, “It’s important to understand that the Visitors Bureau is much more than the visitors center. First and foremost it is our job to bring people into our county. I want to assure our member partners, the City and the County that this will allow us to direct more dollars towards marketing. I am very optimistic that this move will benefit Calaveras’ and Angels Camp’s tourism economies.”

The CVB expects that there will also be new opportunities in the county for distributing visitor information in addition to current distribution points that already exist. Those include member businesses, museums and a professional in county brochure distribution service.
