Local Author, Charity Maness, Greeted her Readers at Highland Books in Arnold on Saturday!~by Patrick Works
Arnold Ca, Dec. 11, 2010....Local author Charity Maness took on the holiday shopping crowds today at Highland Books in Arnold to greet her readers, sign books for sale, and just enjoy a wonderful afternoon in Arnold. Ms. Maness, of Copperopolis, Charity Maness who is also contributor to thepinetree.net got her start as a writer in her childhood.....
"Rather than a traditional gift, one Christmas my father asked me to start offering him a chapter per year of autobiographical material. I started writing then and have not stopped since."
Six volumes later Charity Maness has become an accomplished author with a diverse range of published works and a wide readership.
"The writing my father started me on continued my whole life. Some years ago I asked my husband to read my journals about our new and growing family, and he encouraged me to not only to continue writing, but to consider publishing. So I found my second life as a writer!"
Second chapters in the lives of women are a recurring theme in Charity's works, as she's published a number of romance-themed works with the idea in mind of departing from tired themes of the "bodice-ripper" variety, and instead focusing on women who have a a bit more age, life experience, have had a turn or two in their lives...and thus are more real to the readership.
She told this reporter "I don't think anybody really paid proper attention to those women who's lives have turned a bit since they grew up, and what might happen as those lives continue to turn and those women continue to grow. I thought I could write about these women, and that I should; so I did."
Ms. Maness has been blessed with a marriage of 23 years to her dear husband John. Amazing source material for her works over the years have come from her 4 children; Chris, a 22 year old Marine just returned from Afghanistan; Nick, just younger at 21, a recently married firefighter; Amanda, 18 currently a student at Columbia College; and Marshall, 13, still at Mark Twain Elementary.
Chris has been a great help to his mother recently, as she's undertaken her latest literary project. Based on the letters to and from the battlefield of a local woman who lost her husband during the war in Vietnam, the next project of Ms. Maness is sure to take her to the next level. Chris's experience is helping Charity ensure that all she writes is as real and respectful to all the characters both at home and abroad in what is sure to be a gripping tale.
"I want to do this right, and it's great to have my son helping me make it happen. The kids have taken on the family tradition of writing, but nothing makes me happier than being able to work on a project with my son. This one will take a while...there's lots of research to do, but it's a labor of love, and I'm pleased and honored to be able to take it on."
