Festival of Carols Sings in the Holiday Season

The Interfaith Community of Choirs invites everyone to this year’s Eleventh Annual Festival of Carols, a choral and symphonic band concert benefiting the Interfaith Food Bank of Amador County. This year's concerts are again scheduled the weekend before Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 19th at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 20 at 3:00 p.m., with a silent auction at 2:00 p.m., at the Church of the Nazarene 14050 Ridge Road in Sutter Creek. The continued generous support of our local business owners and community members .....

make this opening to the holiday music season in the Mother Lode free and open to all.. Refreshments and childcare will be provided; and a goodwill offering will be accepted at the program, with all tax deductible proceeds going directly to the Interfaith Food Bank.

This year’s concerts include the Interfaith Children’s Chorus made up of students from the Community Christian School of Pine Grove and local home-schooling families. They will be performing chestnuts of the Christmas repertoire and sign-singing a lovely piece in Hebrew. In addition, we sincerely welcome back the Amador County Concert Band conducted by Stephen Chambers and Irv Gidding. The sacred literature they will be performing include many skillfully scored arrangements for Wind Ensemble such as Greensleeves, Procession of Nobles, Panis Angelicus, Carol of the Bells, and Battle Hymn of the Republic. Finally, the jewel of the Interfaith Community of Choirs, the Interfaith Women’s Chorus returns after their 2001 debut. Comprising nearly 30 community members, these wonderful ladies have graciously come together since August to prepare such pieces by Benjamin Britten, John Rutter, and Gustav Holst. Local sopranos Kelsey Long, Kathy Payne and tenor Jake Guidi will sing solos for this year’s selections.

Of course, the highlight for many in the concert will be the full sound of the grand congregational sing-a-longs. John Leggett, Conductor and Director for the Festival of Carols, encourages everyone to "be sure to come and enjoy this special time with us as we usher in the Thanksgiving and Christmas season in song!

Friday's festival begins at 7 p.m. with a candlelight procession, Saturday's festival begins at 2 p.m. with a silent auction which include a myriad of items donated by local individuals and businesses such as a center piece from Water Street Antiques, a large agate from Sutter Creek Gold Mine, jewelry from Rare Exception Jewelers, a leather purse from Canales, gift certificates from various contributors such as Kaizen Martial Arts Academy, and Bonnie’s Boutique of Sutter Creek, art work from local studios and well as many other neighboring contributors.. Saturday's 3 p.m. concert will feature the auction of the conductor's baton, in which the highest bidder will take the podium and conduct the house in singing our traditional carol arrangement of "Silent Night."

For more information, call 223-2834 or visit www.interfaithfoodbank.org. Those unable to attend either of these two concerts may send a tax-deductible holiday donation to the Interfaith Food Bank, 12181 Airport Road, Jackson 95642. Donate online or send in a check payable to the Interfaith Food Bank.

Donations will help those who are hungry or in need in the county. The Festival of Carols has been one of the largest fund-raisers for the Interfaith Food Bank since its conception. This success is attributed to generous business support and strong community attendance to this concert series. Festival organizers wish to thank the community for supporting those who are hungry or in need in our community. Everyone can make a difference.
