A Hauntingly Fun Halloween in Copper ~ By, Charity Maness

Copperopolis kids dressed in all their finery, be it ghoulishly scary, eye dazzling beautiful, or just plain silly, attended the highly anticipated Copper Town Square Halloween event. The town square was decked out with webs, ghosts, goblins, spiders and more. There was live music, a parade, a costume contest, and the finale…trick or treating through the whole town square. Each window was carefully decorated by local businesses and organizations, and manned to hand out candy by the handful to each costumed passerby. Located at each exit was a Calaveras County Sheriff Volunteer making sure that any child that may have wandered away would quickly find his or her parent.....

Parents and teens alike got into the Halloween spirit and showed off their more creative side. There was a mother and daughter team of Wilma and Pebbles. A father and daughter team of (I’m guessing here on dad) sumo wrestler and the famous Calaveras Jumping Frog (who by the way was one of the winners for most original costume.) Lots of witches and ghouls paraded about with their little ones by their sides.

The parade began at 4:00 p.m. quickly followed by the costume contest. Prizes were given out in four divisions; scariest, funniest, unique, most original. There were four finalists in each category receiving a $25 prize and a ribbon. Winning an award was the Captain of the Titanic, equipped with his own life preserver. Another award was won by a tornado complete with cows, barns, and cars caught in her spinning path of destruction. The creativity abounded. Live music played while the kids trick or treated until 7:00 pm.

A really fun and safe time was had by all. Thank you to Town Square for hosting this yearly event.
