Employment Records Disclosure from Darren Spellman

Rancho Calaveras, CA...Darren Spellman has shared his employment records with us. This cannot be easy, to show your work history to the public. In an article written in the Calaveras Enterprise on Friday, they accuse Darren of being "fired" from his job as a school teacher at CUSD. According to Darren Spellman, "A reporter from the Calaveras Enterprise contacted him and gave him 24 hours to prove he was laid off from the school or she was breaking a story that he was not. So he called the school to get his records. They could not have them ready in 24 hours so the reporter refused to halt the story to wait for the facts and documentation." All of the documents included are from the relevant 2009 time frame...

We know that running for political office can be a brutal, daunting and invasive task. We need to all remember that all Candidates who have chosen to run for office and serve their fellow residents deserve our respect and the right to thrive in this county win or lose.

We also need to remember that while the public has the right to know and discuss much of their backgrounds, candidates also have friends, families and lives they need to be able to live with dignity when they are not in office.

If we publicly disembowel those running for office we risk driving away qualified candidates in the future and make it increasingly difficult for us to functions as working community when election day has passed.

We are publishing these documents at the request of Mr. Spellman with the hope that win or lose he and his family are able to have successful life here in Calaveras County..

His comments on the documents..

"The review document clearly show that upon review by the principal Ric Stitt my effectiveness as a teacher was documented with very positive language giving no reason for doubt that I would be granted tenure.

The letter of non re-elect notification to the district H.R. department that is dated only 4 days after this very positive review leaves no doubt there is an illogical discrepancy.

Finally the two letters of recommendation by both of my direct supervisors, at the department level, verify my effectiveness and professionalism while also verifying the only logical reason possible for such a situation. They both agree that the decision was made because of financial reasons, as that is the only plausible conclusion which at a later date was confirmed when no new teacher was hired to fill my position.

This was purely financially driven and had nothing to do with me as a person or my abilities as a teacher."
