Copperopolis Fire Protection District Places One More Employee on Administrative Leave ~ By, Charity Maness

Copperopolis Fire Protection District Board of Directors held a closed session meeting Friday morning addressing
“Subject: 1) Public Employee Discipline / Dismissal / Release ( 2 cases ) Pursuant to Government Code 54957.”

Copperopolis, CA...On August 27, 2010, CFPD Chief Cantrell verified that earlier that morning he informed the District’s Board of Directors that he recently “placed another employee on administrative leave,” bringing the total to two employees on administrative leave within the district. On August 2, 2010, Firefighter / Engineer Sean Hamilton had been placed on administrative leave following a formal investigation into alleged misconduct. The latest employee placed on administrative leave has not been named and District administrators are not revealing the circumstances surrounding the action.

Director Steve Marks felt it was “beneficial that they (the board) followed procedures mandated by the state.” Directors Maness and Cheney had no comment. Directors Steve Nelson and Walt Ball were not present at the meeting.

Chief Cantrell stated that although there are two public safety personnel on administrative leave, the Fire District remains “compliant with its obligations to the community.”

Regarding the latest employee placed on administrative leave, Cantrell stated there was “enough merit to initiate an investigation and enough merit to temporarily remove the employee from public service.” To do so “facilitates a neutral and impartial investigation.”
