Umpqua Bank’s School Supply Drive a Huge Success ~ By, Charity Maness
Iris Larson, store manager of the Copperopolis Umpqua Bank location knew that not only were the local schools facing financial difficulty many parents of the children attending those same schools were financially strapped in this current economy. With this thought in mind she and the other associates found a small way to help the kids of the community....
For the last two weeks Umpqua Bank has been hosting a school supply drive in hopes of obtaining enough donated school supplies to help offset the certain lack of supplies within the classrooms and to put supplies in the hands of children that could otherwise possibly not have them.
PTC President Jessica Welch was on hand to receive the donation and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of supplies that had been gathered for the kids of Copper school. There were binders, folders, paper, pens, pencils, crayons, glue, glue sticks, rulers, chalk, and more. Jessica said that due to budget cuts the teachers only received $150 each for classroom supplies this year. With some teachers having up to 35 children in their classroom, that amount of money will not go far. Normally the PTC is able to help offset the cost of classroom supplies but not this year. Due to less money coming in from fund raising events the PTC will only be able to match the funds provided by the district.
Funding for field trips will also be limited through the PTC, though they still anticipate having at least two assemblies and introducing the full student body to theater arts in the form of a UOP Theater production.
PTC is still in need of donations of school supplies, items for raffles, and of course, they will always accept money. If you wish to donate you can contact Jessica at 785-7987.
Iris wanted to make sure to thank the community of Copperopolis for donating supplies to their school supply drive, pointing out that “the resident’s of Copperopolis always step up to the plate” when times are tough and people need help.
