Mountain Biking At Bear Valley Now Through Labor Day ~By John Hamilton with Video & Photos
Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Mountain launched a pilot program for mountain biking at the ski resort and village. Kuma chair has been modified to carry bikes and people in a very efficient way. They have put pull down safety bars and bike carriers on the chairs. It's slicker than valet parking. At the bottom you hand them your bike and load the chair. Your bikes are loaded on the chairs behind you. At Bear Top you step off on a newly built landing platform and a few seconds later you are handed your bike so you can take another lap....
In some ways it is even better than if you took a gondola ride. You can take laps on the mountain or you can take some great trails down to Bear Valley Village where Paul Peterson & Crew from Bear Valley Adventure Company will load your bike while you hop on the bus for a few minutes rest as they take you back up to the Lodge for another lap.
It is great to see this offered here locally. There goal for this pilot program is to add another dimension to Bear Valley in the summer. It already has world class mountain biking and cycling opportunities but this program adds another level of attraction for those downhill thrill junkies and families as well.
We tried it out with a middle aged man, a 13 year old and an 8 year old and everyone had a great time. They are ready to go back this Saturday! There are trails and challenges for everyone.
They had a great first weekend and we hope all of you head on up and take advantage of this program so they will bring it back again next year.
Bear Valley Adventure Company has mountain bikes to rent or buy if you need a great downhill special. They also carry the Trail Maps for your convenience.
Mountain Pedaler in Angels Camp also has a large selection of state of the art pedaling machines.
So make plans for this Saturday to hit the slopes/trails this summer. There are also discounts for those of you who have already purchased their 2010/11 Season Passes.
*Please excuse the middle aged shaky camera man...I dropped my helmet from the lift, took a nice fall (got the bruise to show for it) and more on our adventure!
