FIRE NEWS....Vegetation Fire Reported on Summit Level Road in Arnold...CONTAINED AT 8:53am
Arnold, CA...Crews from multiple agencies and aircraft out of Columbia are responding to a vegetation fire off of Summit Level Road in the Arnold area. More to follow if needed... First on scene are reporting the fire at about 1/2 acre. As a general rule if you are following these fires is that on wildland fires where there is lots of fuel it it critical for them to get them knocked down quickly before they can get up a head of steam. Update 8:53am: Fire contained at 2-3 acres. They are continuing units inbound and will remain on scene for mop up. Great job crews! Video Enclosed...
Fires out in this area have the potential to become large campaign fires like the Knight Fire in the Stanislaus River Drainage area last year. From following them it seems if they can get them knocked down before they really get rolling.
We have heard from several fire personnel that their goal is 5 acres or under in heavy fuel areas such as the Mokelumne Wilderness/Drainage area. At this size they can quickly get around them and knock them down. Once they grow the amount of resources and manpower needed to control them seems to grow exponentially.
So on this fire is looks like they did exactly what they needed to do.
