CALAVERAS VISITORS BUREAU UPDATE
Hello CVB Members and Friends! Here’s a quick update on some of the things we’ve been up to...Calaveras Takes the Gold…Again! Hopefully by now you have heard that Calaveras County took the Gold again at the California State Fair! This year’s theme “Passport to Adventure” played out with a lifted yellow Jeep as the centerpiece of the display. Whimsically spilling out from the Jeep are several Calaveras Adventures. There is also a dedication to Mark Twain where fairgoers can read some of his original writings. We have about 100 volunteers from throughout the County who work the exhibit each day giving out tons of Calaveras literature. Comments so far indicate that attendance this year has surpassed previous years. We have already had visitors at the Visitors Center who came here because of the exhibit. Someone even called and ordered Calaveras t-shirts after seeing them as part of the display! The fair runs through August 1st....
2011 Calaveras Activities Guide You should have recently received your paperwork for the 2011 Calaveras Activities Guide. We have already begun the design process and are hoping to have the guide complete sooner than normal as we are running low on the current supply (this is a good thing!). Please be sure to get all of your listing changes to us by the due dates so we can stick to our schedule. In addition, I hope you will consider advertising in the guide this year. It is a great way to get your message out to thousands of visitors to Calaveras County and it is extremely affordable!
National Parks, Forests and Monuments Campaign The Calaveras Visitors Bureau has partnered with Sunset Magazine National Parks, Forests and Monuments campaign. While we don’t have a National Park in Calaveras, we certainly have acres and acres of wonderful National Forest! If you subscribe to Sunset, look for the promotion. We are looking forward to the additional interest this will generate for Calaveras County!
Local Businesses to be Highlighted in California Travel and Tourism Commission’s “What’s New in California” The Calaveras Visitors Bureau takes advantage of every opportunity to promote Calaveras County. Our partnership with the California Travel and Tourism Commission includes submission opportunities for “What’s New in California”, a quarterly update that reaches over 3,000 travel writers across the country and the world. So far this year, three of our submissions have been accepted. In the summer issue, Angels Camp business, Gold Rush Originals was featured. From that exposure Gold Rush Originals and Angels Camp received write-ups in the LA Times, VIA Magazine, Sunset Magazine, KGO’s On the Go and Voice of America. And this is just the publicity we know about! It totals at least a $40,000 value in advertising. We accomplished this at no charge. The fall 2010 issue of “What’s New” will feature Get on Your Mark Bicycle Tours as well as the new Mark Twain Exhibit at the Angels Camp Museum.
Coming Soon to Calaveras Community Television We’ve done radio and now it’s time for community television! That’s right! The Calaveras Visitors Bureau will have our own show where we get to talk about great things happening in Calaveras County! It will be a wonderful opportunity to emphasize the importance of the tourism industry in our county, region and state. We look forward to hosting special guests for each segment as well as giving viewers more insight into who the Calaveras Visitors Bureau is and why what we do is so important to everyone in Calaveras County!
Only One Spot Left for VIA Discover Winter Getaways Once again the CVB is coordinating a one-page cooperative ad with our partners for VIA Magazine’s, Discover Winter insert. This has been a terrific co-op for the CVB and our partners. Partners receive all leads generated from this ad. The cost is just $1460 per partner. The insert goes in 500,000 copies of the Nov/Dec issue of VIA which will be distributed throughout Northern California including the always important Bay Area market. If you would like more information or want to grab that last space, let me know by Wednesday, August 4th.
Angels Camp Branding Merchandise is now being sold at the Calaveras Visitors Center. Get your Angels Camp cap, Angels Camp waterbottle and/or Angels Camp decals and help “Redefine the Rush”!
Thank you We’d like to thank all of our members who have submitted input regarding the future of the Calaveras Visitors Center. We hope to have a definite direction to go following our next Board Meeting and we will certainly keep you posted.
