Columbia College Foundation Elects New Board President

The Columbia College Foundation Board of Directors has elected Mel Kirk to serve as Board President, beginning July 2010, serving a two-year term. Kirk will replace out-going President Randy Selesia, who served from July 2008 to June 2010. The Board also elected Dwain McDonald, retired Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools, to serve as Vice President; Keturah Wilk as Treasurer; and Doralyn Foletti as Secretary. “We are very fortunate to have a committed Board of Directors that bring such a diverse range of skills and experience from which we can draw,” noted Beccie Michael, Director of Development. “I’m looking forward to working with each of our new officers, and am so grateful for those who have served over the years.”..

Kirk – a third generation Tuolumne County resident – has served on the Board of Directors since 2006, and brings a wealth of experience, community contacts, and enthusiasm to his new role as Board President. “I believe in giving back to the community,” explained Kirk, “and this Board has been a fantastic way for me to do just that. I am honored to serve as President, particularly at a time when the Foundation is experiencing such growth and support from our community.”

The Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of volunteer community members that dedicate their time and effort to the Foundation’s mission of supporting students. College President Dr. Joan Smith noted, “I am thrilled to see a young and talented professional like Mel as the next Foundation Board President.” In addition to the officers, the Foundation’s Board of Directors includes: Rosetta Bannwarth, Michael Chimente, Pat Dean, Bill Dunlavy, Dr. Dennis Gervin, Louise Goicoechea, Ed.D., Mike Heuton, Richard Matranga, Ida Ponder, Glenn Roberts, Randy Selesia, Joe Silva, Stephanie Suess, and Gene Womble.

The Columbia College Foundation is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to support Columbia’s students through scholarships and various other campus activities. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. For more information, please visit www.gocolumbia.edu/foundation or call (209) 588-5055.
