‘Geezers’ get groovy in Jackson
Head to downtown Jackson on Saturday evening to hear the jazzy tunes of the Geezers, a band that, despite its name, features lively dance tunes. The group is a nine-piece team of classic jazz musicians led by Jan Buhlert of Amador County. A constant figure at jazz events and festivals, the Geezers provide rich, melodic ballads along with dance tunes that hearken to Jackson’s days of speakeasies and ladies of the night....
The Geezers perform Saturday in Jackson.
Join the fun, bring the kids and enjoy live music while you dance under the colorful awning of a giant parachute in the square of Petkovich Park. The park is in historic downtown Jackson, across from Bank of America at the intersection of Water Street and Broadway. The event is free and open to the public. Fat Freddy’s Hot dogs, Italian shaved ice, Tamales from Café CoCo and other refreshments will be available for sale. No alcohol, please.
Response to the inaugural Saturday Dance Parties has been positive, with crowds gathering every other Saturday to listen and dance to live music from the 1920s through’60s performed by Amador bands.
There are only three Saturday Dance Parties left, so head to Petkovich Park for an evening of family-friendly fun. The remaining concerts are:
July 24: The Geezers
Aug. 14: Speakeasy Jazz Orchestra
Aug. 28: Second Wind
Saturday Dance Parties begin at 5 p.m. and the music and dancing last until 7 p.m. For more information call Temple Studios at (209) 223-2884 and ask for Trevor or David.
