John Adams, Ph.D. To Host Two Seminars at Ironstone

Murphys, CA....John Adams, Ph.D. will be hosting a pair of high quality six hour seminars that I will be conducting at Ironstone in October."I've been working with each of the seminar topics for over 30 years, and am now making them available for the first time in the foothills." Health, Stress and Your Lifestyle will be held on Saturday, October 2nd from 9:00 - 4:00pm. Stress is a normal part of life. It is necessary, in small amounts, for good health and effective functioning. It only becomes a problem -- both to health and to productivity -- when there is too much of it (or too little). Come and learn what stress really is, how to recognize when it is becoming a problem, and a variety of practical things you can do about it. We will cover both individual and organizational coping strategies. A wide range of practical ....

actions will be presented to help you avoid the avoidable, cope better with the unavoidable, and also to build up your internal capacity to remain healthy and productive during periods unavoidable of high pressure.

Influencing Skills
Saturday, October 16: 9:00-4:00

To be successful at work, many people must gain cooperation across organizational boundaries. These people (you?) must influence the actions of others over whom they (you?) have no authority or control. And since these cross-boundary relationships need to be continual or frequent, only positive, win-win approaches to collaborating are likely to succeed over the long haul. The seminar is also recommended for couples and for informal planning teams where positive mutual influence is needed. You will take away several practical influence roadmaps that you can start using immediately.

The cost for each seminar is $60, and includes breaks, lunch, and a comprehensive course workbook. Please see the attached fliers for more information about each seminar. Or contact me directly if you have any questions.

9:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M.

Stress is a normal part of life. It is necessary, in small amounts, for good health and effective functioning. It only becomes a problem when there is too much of it (or too little). Come and learn what stress really is, how to recognize when it is becoming a problem, and a variety of practical things you can do about it.

You will learn the basics of how stress functions in easy to understand terms. Following the course you will be able to instantly recognize excessive stress levels in yourself and also in others. A wide range of practical actions will be presented to help you avoid the avoidable, cope better with the unavoidable, and also to build up your internal capacity to remain healthy and productive during periods of high pressure.

The course will provide practical ideas for how to reduce excessive stress and optimize your life style in five specific areas: 1) self management (healthy eating, good exercise, several different relaxation techniques), 2) dealing with changes in your life, 3) changing your ineffective habits, 4) optimizing your performance, and 5) focusing your life purpose.

At the end of the seminar, you will create a personalized action plan that creates lists of things you want to start doing and things you want to stop doing to protect and build your health and to handle stressful situations more effectively. After prioritizing these possibilities, you’ll decide which “improvement project” to take on first and develop the specific steps you’ll take to be successful.

Objectives:

1.Develop an understanding of what stress is and how it affects people.
2.Improved understanding of how to cope with the speed and pressures of a busy life.
3.Identify and implement practical steps for improved health and stress management, both at home and on the job.

Presenter:

John Adams, Ph.D., founder of Eartheart Enterprises, was among the first professionals to work with the challenges of excessive stress. He developed the first comprehensive program for addressing workplace stress and health in 1975, and has been growing the program ever since. Dr. Adams has delivered this program across North America and in South America, Europe and Asia. This is the first time John has offered the program in the local community. He lives in Murphys and recently served as Director of Education for the Foothill Collaborative for Sustainability (FoCuS). John has spoken and published widely on health & stress, successful change, collaborative relationships, and sustainability.

Cost & Registration:

$60 (includes comprehensive workbook, coffee breaks and lunch)
Maximum Number of participants: 40; Minimum: 15

Influence Skills for Positive Engagement

Presented by John Adams, Ph.D.

Saturday, October 16
9:00-4:00
In the world of work today, a high percentage of employees’ interactions take place across organizational boundaries. What this means is that for most of these people to be successful in their work, they must influence the actions of others over whom they have no authority or control. And since these cross-boundary relationships need to be ongoing, only positive, win-win approaches to influence are likely to succeed over the long term. The seminar is also appropriate for couples or informal planning teams where positive influence is also important.
Staff people in particular find that their jobs require them to influence their line constituents on a regular basis in order to get their own jobs done successfully. Human Resources people virtually never have authority over the people they must influence, and so they must use positive influence skills to serve their clients well. As another example, elected officials need to develop positive, influence-based relationships with the general public, as well as with key people in the administrative departments they must work with.
This seminar introduces core models of influence that have been proven effective in a wide range of situations. It is based on the assumption that if you, the influencer, are not paying attention to HOW the influence process is going, probably no one is. The core influence model provides a simple road map for the influencer to use in “stage managing” any influence situation in which positive influence is desired. The core influence model pays attention to both the relationship component of the interaction and the content of the influence.

Program Objectives:
1.Better understand the dynamics of the influence process
2.Be able to use a core influence model
3.Develop positive influence skills for use in a variety of situations
4.Increase your awareness of your current influence behavior
5.Identify areas for your on-going development
