Snaps Coffee House in Town Square Hosts Chatom Vineyards~by Charity Maness

What better way to spend a Friday evening than listening to the silky soulful sounds of Grover Anderson on his acoustic guitar and sipping a variety of Chatom Vineyards delicious, thought provoking wines? Snaps hosted Chatom Vineyards Friday night to the delight of many Copperopolis and Angels Camp residents. There were creative appetizer’s provided by Panini’s and an eclectic yet somehow perfect selection of wines to sample. Most started with the 2007 Semillon. The comments heard floating through the room were ‘smooth’ .....

delicious’ ‘nice’ to name a few. Next up the 2008 Chardonnay. I must say that I missed what people had to say about the Chardonnay for I passed and went straight to the 2006 Sangiovese and all thought processes went by the wayside. At first the cold tartness hit my tongue quickly followed by a sweetness fighting to overcome and entwine with an almost bitter taste. This wine was amazing; from the minute it hit my lips until the moment I discovered my glass was empty. I was afraid to try anything else for fear of ruining that wonderful experience. But others went on to sample a 2006 Merlot and a 2005 Syrah.

The host was none other than Marc Kunz, the wine maker for Chatom. Marc came to Chatom in 2004 bringing with him 20 years of experience and artistry that will no doubt continue to bring Chatom great notoriety.

Chatom began in 1980 with a purchase of property in ‘Esmeralda Valley’ by Gay Callan. Gay quickly planted 21 acres of Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc vines in 1981. Currently Chatom boasts “13 varietals planted on 65 acres, including Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Sangiovese and 5 Portuguese varietals.”

Watch for more wine tasting opportunities at Snaps in Copperopolis Town Square.
