Plane Crash Update: A collection team from NTSB removed the wreckage this morning. This is now an FAA investigation and the coroner has not positively identified the victim as of this writing. ~By Debby Parsons
Copperopolis, CA...Dispatch received numerous calls regarding a possible airplane crash shortly after 9:00 a.m. this morning. One caller reported seeing an airplane that looked like it was performing a stunt and then going behind a hill just before hearing a crash. Deputies arrived on Pool Station Road near Angels Camp approximately 9:30 a.m. The crash site was seen from the air and located about 150 yards up a hill from Pool Station Road. There was a single fatality in the crash, the pilot of the Cessna 172 fixed wing airplane. Identification is pending upon notification of next of kin. The registered owner of the plane is Michael Monzingo of Oakdale. The scene has been secured and will be turned over to the FAA.
