What a Day with C.A.S.T. for Kids!~with Photos & Video by Dylan Richardson
Tuttletown, CA...Bright and early on Saturday morning the Bureau of Reclamation staff and over 75 volunteers organized the 18th annual C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) for Kids Fishing Fun Fair at New Melones Lake. The fair was co-sponsored by the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, a national non-profit organization whose goal is “to provide disabled and disadvantaged children ages 5-16 the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing.”...

Each child spent the day shoreline fishing or fishing on boats with local anglers. Equipment, T-shirts, and even hats were provided. All the kids had to bring was a chaperone. Opportunities for both education and entertainment abounded on the shore with the participants being permitted to explore a fire engine with CalFire firefighters or visit a variety of booths ranging from gold-panning to casting contests and aquatic ecosystems to water safety.
This year Arnold Rotary provided a total of 5 boats (Dave Woodhams, Bud and Carla Prigmore, Kevin Foust, Michelle Young and Paul Bertini). They also sponsor the gold panning display (owned and operated by one of our members, Kristy Moore) up in the parking lot, and the kids (and lots of adults) have spent hours searching and often finding real gold.
It was so kind of the Arnold Rotary to invite us for a ride on one of their boats, Even though our boat only caught one fish today it will be the memory of a life time for all of the participating kids. All of the volunteers that helped to put C.A.S.T. for kids event on should be commended.
