Copperopolis Library Offers Free Adult Tutoring~by Charity Maness
The Copperopolis Library, long known for its community service efforts and perseverance to survive and succeed in the face of seemingly insurmountable budget constraints, now offers adult tutoring. Though most people that take advantage of the adult tutoring program “are attaining their GED” says Copper’s librarian attendant Valerie Dean, the library will gladly help “any adult struggling with their education.” Those that are attending online colleges for an AA degree may find it difficult to embrace a subject without one-on-one instruction or reinforcement. The library is a viable alternative to traveling miles to the satellite school in hopes of receiving help....
Valerie also offers proctoring for University level exams during library hours. Many online colleges require that you attend a brick and mortar institution for your midterm and final. If a student cannot travel the distance, they can make an appointment with Valerie to take their exams. She will set up the University site for the exam and supervise the process.
The library also offers English as a second language tutoring. This is done after hours, so that the library is quiet and is best done in a group setting “so that enunciation and verbal communication” can be practiced without interruption and with one’s peers. This is set up by appointment only.
The library is available for use by local agencies after hours. For example, the Copperopolis Parks and Rec regularly meet at the library.
There are five computers set up with DSL available for use during library hours. If you don’t know how to navigate the internet, all you have to do is ask. The staff will gladly guide you through the process. There is also a children’s computer set up in the children’s section of the library loaded with learning games.
Library hours are as follows: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 11-5, and Friday 10-1.
For information regarding tutoring, proctoring, or use of the facility please call Valerie at 785-0920.
