GARDENING WITH CHILDREN HELPS KIDS SPROUT!!
Connecting children with nature through gardening and other outdoor related activities helps the whole child. The more children play outside, the better off they will be as they grow up. “KIDS DAY IN THE GARDEN” will give children, parents, and grandparents myriad ideas for staying outdoors. Master Gardeners, University of California Cooperative extension officials, First 5 Calaveras, and the Prevent Child Abuse Council Calaveras will be hosting this event at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at the Government Center in San Andreas on Mountain Ranch Road . This will be on Saturday, May 22nd, from 10 am to 12 pm and all the activities are free. ...
To promote literacy, gardening related books specifically geared toward children will be given away, veggies will be planted to take home, there will be garden art projects to create as well as studies about worms and spiders and how they are helpers in the garden. Growing their own food encourages children to eat more veggies and they will be able to “plant” their own “garden on a cracker” as a healthy snack. Plants will be available to purchase and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer gardening questions.
For more information contact Joyce Peek of First 5 Calaveras at 754-1470.
