Digital Mammography is now available at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital
Digital Mammography could help save your mother’s life, your sister’s life, your daughter’s life…or yours. Digital Mammography is now available at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas. Benefits of the new system are reduced examination time, decreased exposure with a more efficient dose, improved image, enhanced contrast and reads dense breasts more effectively.
(l to r) Bob Hussmann, President of the Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, and Peggy Lucas, Chief Development Officer, proudly hand off the final funds for the Digital Mammography system to Hospital President Feliciano Jiron.
“We are very proud to offer this new digital technology to our women in Calaveras County” said hospital president Feliciano Jiron. “The new technology has proven itself to be a benefit to the early detection of breast cancer and treatment. And what better way to celebrate Mothers Day on May 9th with a new system that could help save a life. The Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation proudly funded the cost of the new system, facility renovation and all professional fees to bring this technology to the hospital campus.”
“The operation of the system brings to completion approximately 18 months of fundraising to pay for both the equipment and associated construction costs” said Hospital Foundation President Bob Hussmann. “The community has been provided a needed technology that can save lives through early detection of breast cancer.”
Digital Mammography is a system in which x-ray film is replaced by solid- state detectors that convert x-rays into electric signals. These detectors are similar to those found in digital cameras. The signals produce images that can be seen on a computer screen. Digital mammography allows radiologists to manipulate the mammogram to electronically magnify an area, change contrast or alter the brightness. Computer software aides in the detection of cancer.
Appointments are now being scheduled. Check with your physician for a referral.
