2010 Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump Saturday, May 8
Altaville, CA....The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump will be held concurrently on Saturday, May 8 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire Department in Angels Camp. Twelve Applicants to Vie for Jr. Miss Calaveras County
The Junior Miss Calaveras competition is open to 8th grade girls in Calaveras county. The contestants are judged on beauty, personality, pleasantness and ticket sales by a panel of judges. The winner will be announced during the Junior Frog jump and she will be presented at the Calaveras County Fair the next week....
The twelve contestants are: Leslie Ann Johnson, Amy Chraft, and Jolene Krautheim of Copperopolis, Mikayla Lambert, Jacey Loomis, Shania McDaniel, and Abigail Median of Angels Camp, Taylor Hanan, Melissa Howard, and Heather MacDonald of Murphys, Samantha Bertolino of Arnold, and Marita Elliott of San Andreas.
Leslie, Mikayla, Amy, Melissa, Jacey, Jolene and Shania attend Mark Twain Elementary, Marita attends Christian Foothills Learning Center, Abigail, Taylor and Samantha attend Avery Middle School, and Heather attends Connecting Waters Charter School.
Get A Head Start On Frog Jumps
Kids of all ages are welcome to jump their frog at the Jr. frog jump. Frogs will be provided or contestants can bring their own frog. Cost is $1 per jump. This year there will be 2 divisions of frog jumps, one for contestants who bring their own frog and one for kids who jump frogs provided at the event. This jump is sanctioned by the International Calaveras frog jump association, and the person/frog with the longest jump of either group will be automatically entered in the finals of the Calaveras Frog Jump on May 17 at Frogtown.
There will be games and activities for the kids and food and refreshments will be served.
Both the Jr. Miss Calaveras contestants and AMFD fire personnel are currently selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the Altaville Melones Fire District firefighters association. Raffle prizes including a 32” flat screen HDTV television, gift certificates from local area merchants, a 2-night stay at the Carson Valley Inn and much more. Tickets are 50 cents each and will also be on sale during the event.
Admission is free to both events.
Proceeds from these events benefit the Altaville Melones Volunteer Firefighters Association.
The Altaville Melones Fire Department is Located on Monte Verde Street in Angels Camp.
