Kidzone at the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee
Angels Camp, CA....Kidz of all ages, it’s time to celebrate! The all-free, all-fun KidZone is returning to the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee for the second year, running Thursday May 13th through Sunday May 16th. Combining arts, education, fun, games and frogs, the KidZone was a hit with last year’s fair attendees, and this year it promises to bring a whole new level of entertainment to the Calaveras County Fair.....
Thursday kicks off with the opening performance of Mitchell’s Marionettes. Bringing their own twenty-five foot riverboat stage and a ship-full of fun and wacky friends, Mitchell’s Marionettes have delighted audiences across the nation, and are sure to be a welcome addition to the KidZone. Mitchell’s Marionettes will be performing at the KidZone throughout all four days of the Frog Jump; check the schedule for additional performance times.
Mark Twain’s beloved characters come to life with the Tom and Becky Costume Contest. Kids across the Calaveras County are encouraged to put together their best Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher duds for a fun and spirited costume parade and competition. Prizes will be given for the Tip-Top Tom, Best Becky, Most Creative Costume, Tom and Becky Trivia Masters, and Best Costume Duo. There is no entry fee. Entrants must meet KidZone Coordinator Ann Mazzaferro at the KidZone Stage by 12:30 pm. The Tom and Becky Costume Contest starts at 1:00 pm on Thursday at the KidZone Stage.
Calaveras County kids are encouraged to strut their stuff at the Frog Jump Talent Show, held Saturday, May 15th, from noon to 2:00 pm at the KidZone Stage. Contestants can enter the Talent Show up until the morning of Saturday 15th, so come on out and show off your singing, dancing, instrument skill, and any other special talents!
Huckleberry Finn, that memorable scamp, will be making an appearance at the KidZone during Huck Finn’s Hootenanny at 3:00 pm at the KidZone. Join Huckleberry Finn for fun and games inspired by Mark Twain’s boyhood, like bobbing for apples, pie-eating, and fence white-washing. Huck Finn’s Hootenanny will be happening throughout the four days of Frog Jump, with plenty of opportunities for fun for all!
The first 250 guests to the KidZone on Thursday will receive a free popsicle to cool off under the warm California sun. Throughout the four days of Frog Jump, guests to the KidZone can retrieve a free Golden Book, courtesy of Golden State Cellular. Other free activities throughout the Fair at the KidZone include Tom Sawyer’s Fishing Hole, Coloring and Craft Corner, dance performances by Power Up, visits from Hannibal, Missouri’s very own Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher, meet-and-greet times with the Miss Calaveras and Saddle Queen Courts, Chalk Art, activities with Mind Matters, and much more! Fairgoers will also have a chance to sign the “Hands Are Not For Hurting Pledge,” committing that they will not use their hands to hurt themselves or those around them.
The Kidzone is sponsored by Mark Twain Saint Joseph’s Hospital. For more information concerning the KidZone, please contact KidZone coordinator Ann Mazzaferro at 209-754-1354.
