Master Gardeners Spring Plant Sale Coming up April 23rd
San Andreas, CA....Spring has arrived and gardeners are ready to get their gardens growing. Gardeners looking for that special plant should put the following dates and times on their calendar. On Friday, April 23 from 3 pm to 6 pm and Saturday, April 24 from 10 am to 2 pm the Demonstration Garden at the Government Center in San Andreas will open to the public for the Master Gardeners’ popular spring plant sale. .....
A large selection of plants will be available: heirloom tomatoes, squash, peppers and other vegetables, herbs, natives, hardy succulents, daylilies, ornamental grasses, perennials, shrubs and more. Master Gardeners will assist buyers in selecting the right plant for the home gardener’s environment. Also available for purchase will be a variety of gardening related books.
In addition, there will be information booths on two topics. One booth will offer tips on how to recycle common household items into low cost garden season starters and extenders. For example, old shower doors or old windows may be used when building a cold frame. The second information booth will provide details on how to start softwood cuttings. During the sale the learning center will be staffed by Master Gardeners who will answer questions and distribute reference materials on commonly asked questions. Tours of the demonstration garden will also be available.
When the garden is not open, home gardening assistance is offered by Master Gardeners through the Help Line: 754-2880. The public may call the number, leave a message regarding the problem, and a Master Gardener will return the call.
The Demonstration Garden is a project of the Calaveras County Master Gardeners whose primary goal is educating the public about home gardening. Proceeds from the plant sale support Master Gardeners’ education programs and maintenance of the demonstration garden.
