Junior Fair Board Members Chosen & Assigned to Duties

Angels Camp, CA.....58 Calaveras County students have applied to be members of the 2010 Calaveras County Junior Fairboard Committee. These students are all returning participants or first-time junior and senior high school students. Scholarships are awarded to two of these lucky students based on a vote by the Board of Directors of the scholarship applications submitted. ....

In May, these 58 students will begin their work for the Frogjump. They aid the fair in an array of duties. Every day of the fair these students are assigned to a morning and/or evening shift at specific areas, as lead by team leaders. Team leaders were chosen based on their continued commitment to the Fairboard, and their availability to work a large number of shifts. The specific areas of the fair where they fulfill their duties are: as mascots (we have 3 new mascot costumes this year), helping with the Frogjump, working in the barns, Kidz Zone, and arena, helping greet guests at the front gate and collect zip codes for fair surveys, and helping with the Miss Calaveras Scholarship Pageant (always a favorite job!) The students will be given job descriptions and an assignment of duties they are to uphold when working in these areas. The Junior Fairboard orientation meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 4:00pm at the fairgrounds. They will take a tour of the grounds and be informed of all the great events the fair has to offer this year.

In exchange for donating their time and services to the fair, the Junior Fairboard members receive admission for all four days of the fair, free parking, a chance to vie for the two scholarship opportunities, a plaque for all graduating seniors, and fair t-shirts. Most importantly, they are given a valuable life lesson. The experience is a wonderful one, teaching qualities such as loyalty, dedication, hard work, and lessons about agriculture, animal ethics, marketing, public relations, patience and teamwork. All of the volunteers and employees of the fair look forward to the help provided by the Junior Fairboard, and as always we love getting to know our local teens better, as young business men and women! The volunteer spirit in our county is alive and well and is always eagerly donated by our Junior Fairboard members.
