A Wonderful Family Tradition..."Forest Farms Christmas Trees"~by Tammy Beilstein

Mokelumne Hill, CA....Forest Farms is not only a tree farm but a tradition for many families in our area. Located on a 180 acre farm in the town of Mokelumne Hill, this business owned by Dave and Cathy Chitwood has been bringing home the sights and smells of Christmas for many, many years. As you walk the property you will find White Fir, Red Fir, Douglas Fir, Silvertip, Scotch Pine, Redwood, Blue Spruce, Green Spruce and Cedar. You choose and cut the tree of your choice using a saw provided by Forest Farms. ......

“It seems our Douglas Fir and Silver Tip are the most popular trees,” said Dave Chitwood. “We planted over 2,000 new trees at the end of last year; most of them were Douglas Fir and White Fir.”

After you find your perfect tree, it will be taken to the wrapping station where the Chitwoods net your tree for easy transporting. While they do all the hard work, you are invited to sit by the large outdoor fire pit, sip cider and hot chocolate and feast on hot dogs and buffalo burgers.

Tree prices at Forest Farms are $22 for Douglas Fir, Scotch Pine, Cedar and Redwood up to 10 feet tall, and $30 for trees over 10 feet tall. Silver Tip, White Fir and Red Fir cost $25 up to 5 feet tall plus an additional $5 for every foot over 5 feet. Blue Spruce and Green Spruce cost $30 up to 5 feet tall plus an additional $6 for every foot over 5 feet.

Forest Farms is open Sundays and weekdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm, closed on Saturdays.

To get to Forest Farms take Hwy 26 to Glencoe. Turn right on Ridge Road (Corner of Independence Road). The Forest Farms driveway is 1/4 mile down Ridge Road from Independence at 2446 Ridge Road.
