Hospital Fundraiser Completes Campaign for Digital Mammography. Almost $94K Raised Through "Dancing with Sierra Stars"!!
Murphys, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Gala and
“Dancing with the Sierra Stars” was a tremendous success bringing in nearly $94,000 and helping to complete a $1 million campaign to bring digital mammography to the hospital started last year. Bob Hussmann, foundation president, showcased the accomplishments of its founders, past presidents and members over the past twenty-five years. In his words, “We are truly fortunate to live in a community that generously supports healthcare and understands its importance.” ....

Dancing the waltz, Larry Cornish and Pattee Singer, both hospital employees, won the People’s Choice award for bringing in the most dollars, while George and Beverly Navas, dancing the Salsa won the coveted Mirrored Ball award for Best Dancers.
Over 200 people joined in the celebration at Ironstone Vineyards where six local couples danced for votes in the form of dollars. The dancers themselves raised over $25,000 for their performances. An enthusiastic crowd cheered on the dancing couples: Pete Rodrigues and Ann Anderson, and Seth Turoonjian and Marian Coahran, Ed and Sue Larsen, Larry Cornish and Pattee Singer, Mike and Denise Kifune and George and Beverly Navas.

A five tiered anniversary cake was presented by Michal Houston, chair of the event, and her steering committee, Cynthia Gomes, Linda Lewis and Peggy Lucas to the rousing song, “Celebration”. Women from around the ballroom joined in an impromptu dance around the cake to celebrate the success of the digital mammogram campaign.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the kick-off for a campaign to bring a Women’s Health Resource Center to Angels Camp by Peggy Lucas, Executive Director, and that Doris Barger, founder and first president of the Foundation, had just given the lead gift for the new campaign of $50,000. The guests accepted her generosity with a standing ovation.
Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation is a non-profit organization that was formed to support the hospital in its efforts to bring excellent healthcare to the community.
