Supervisor Chair, Russ Thomas Speaks at VSABA October Luncheon at Rancho Clubhouse~By Tammy Beilstein

Valley Springs, CA....The Valley Springs Area Business Association (ABA) held its October Luncheon at the Rancho Calaveras Property Owners Business Association's Clubhouse on Thursday. Guest speaker, Calaveras County Supervisor Russ Thomas, spoke of his upcoming trip to Washington DC and about plans to improve the O’Byrnes Ferry Road Bridge. Supervisor Thomas said that he plans to leave next Tuesday to travel with a delegation from the Calaveras County Water District to Washington DC. While there the group will speak with Senator Diane Feinstein, the office of Congressman Dan Lungren, and members from the Corp. of Engineers. The goal is to keep Calaveras ......

County on the minds of the elected officials as they discuss financial allocations. Working to improve the relationship between CCWD and Calaveras County has been an ongoing mission of Supervisor Thomas.

The other topic of discussion was Supervisor Thomas’ plan to obtain funds for infrastructure improvements to the O’Byrnes Ferry Road Bridge. “The bridge was built in 1953 and has been declared functionally obsolete” said Thomas. “Many accidents happen on the approach to the bridge as well as on the bridge itself, in part due to a sharp turn after a steep hill.” Some accidents close the bridge down for 3 or more days, causing a hardship for the residents of Copperopolis and Tuolumne County.

An impromptu Q and A session took place between Supervisor Thomas and past Calaveras County Supervisor Mike Dell’Orto giving the attendees a historical perspective as well as a look at how far we’ve come.

Also on the ABA Luncheon agenda was the presentation of $3,300.00 to local charities.

The chosen recipients, as pictured from left to right, are:

Dave Evans - Barn Building Committee $500
Chairman George Nelson
Sharon Floyd - TAG (Autism) $500
Beth Piech - Valley Springs Methodist Church Food Bank $500
Liz Weaver - Sheng Chi Foundation $300
Jeannie Hayward - The Resource Connection (Santa's Express) $1000
Hiedi Miller - The Good Smarititan Church Food Bank $500

According to VSABA Board Member Candace Keesey, “These, and the many of the donations ABA presents throughout the year, would not be possible without the support of ABA members, local businesses and individuals. We would like to give a heartfelt thank you from the ABA Board of Directors to all who contributed.”
The Valley Springs Area Business Association was formed in 1983 by a group of citizens and merchants from the Burson, Wallace, Valley Springs and Rancho Calaveras areas. They joined together for the mutual benefit of their communities and in 2008; the Valley Springs Area Business Association (ABA) was founded as a non-profit corporation.
Today, the ABA boasts a large active membership made up of people from the business, working and retirement communities united in promoting a better environment and image for our area and businesses.
