City Council Recap.. Angels Camp Cuts An Officer, Greenhorn Creek Streets Join the City and Angels Camp has a new budget. (Updated with Meeting Video)

Angels Camp, CA...The meeting venue for Tuesday evening's changed to the meeting hall at the Catholic Church to hold the large crowd that wanted to weigh in again on the City accepting the Greenhorn Creek Streets into the City system. Subject to a survey that is exactly what will happen. The city also had to worry about belt tightening. This resulted in the elimination of one Officer position. Several members of the community and local business owners spoke on the adverse affects losing an Officer would have on the city. The Council felt as if they had no choice as the budget deficit for this year is approximately $600k. Eliminating one Officer position will save the City approximately $88k per year.

Unfortunately Officer Edwin Arias is the low man on the seniority level at the City. He was hired in August of 2008.

The Council voted unanimously to approve the cuts and the budget. The City has been in a much better cash position than the County but this could change if serious belt tightening isn't done.

At the projected deficit the City would burn through it's reserves in under 3 years.

The meeting ran 3 1/2 hours and we will have the full Calaveras County Funded Public Access meeting video below...
