An Evening of Dance at Black Bart Theater~by Austin Wagner

Presenting their first show of the 2009-2010 season, Satori Jazz Dance Company yet again wowed audiences of all ages this weekend at Black Bart Theater in Murphys. Led by artistic director Sarah May, the company produced, "Retrospective: An Evening of Dance", running this past Saturday and Sunday afternoons. "It was a lot of fun to revisit or relearn dances from the past. It brought back many memories. It showed....

how much Satori has grown and changed over the years", remarked 15 year-old dancer Alexandra Kunesh. The objective of this weekend's performance, was to re-introduce Satori to the local community, as well as look back on the past six shows that the company has preformed. An array of
dance scenes from precedential shows ranging from "Firebird" to "Robin Hood: A Modern Ballet",demonstrated that in each production the art develops and evolves.

This weekend's event also marked the beginning of two new era's for the company. The first being a collaboration with the Murphy's Creek Theater Company. Three familiar faces to local theater appeared in the production, and are looking forward to joining the cast in the future. The second being the official announcement of the new home of Satori. Since it's conception, the company has rehearsed and choreographed from Klines Fitness Center in Arnold. Although with the gym's recent closure, Satori made the official announcement that their new residence will be at BodyLanguage Fitness in Applewood Center.

With amazing turnout, and remarkable audience reaction; "Retrospective" showed the bright and high spirited performers as they prepare for their next full length production. "Batman", will run this coming spring at Bret Harte Performing Arts Center in Angles Camp.
