Calaveras 14, Hilmar 21 (JV score: Calaveras: 14 Hilmar: 28) ~ By Tammy Beilstein

San Andreas, CA....Although Calaveras was not the victor in Friday night’s bout against Hilmar, they can take great pride in the fact that they played a fantastic game – and played it much better than they did against this same team last year. The game started out looking as if things were going remarkably well for Calaveras. In the first 20 seconds of the game, CHS Junior, Chris Ussery, grabbed hold of Hilmar’s kickoff at the 8 yard line and ran the ball back a full 92 yards for a touchdown. ....

Hilmar responded by racking up their own touchdowns – one each in the first and second quarter. Neither team managed to score in the 3rd quarter.
In the final quarter of the game, Redskin Garett Bock threw a successful pass to Connor Seawell who ran the ball to the 3 yard line. The very next play had Monti Wilson running the ball into the end zone for a touchdown. Following the touchdown, Monti Wilson received a pass by which the Redskins scored a two-point conversion tying the game.

According to Calaveras Redskins official stat keeper, Tessa Gonzales, “In the last minute of the game Hilmar got through our defensive line and scored a touchdown with a PAT kick. It was a really great game but very sad at the same time.”

And after talking with quite a few of the Redskin’s fans, that appears to be the exact sentiment felt by many…
