Murphys Community Club October 15th Town Hall Meeting to Explore Area Media.....How We Get Local News~by Bob Reagan
Murphys, CA....How local residents get their news in the ever-evolving Information Age will be the topic of the Murphys Community Clubs next Town Hall Meeting to be held Thursday, October 15, 7 p.m. in the Native Daughters Hall, 268 Main St., Murphys. “With the advent of the Internet, and drastic changes in the publishing world, the way people in the Murphys area keep abreast of what is happening in and around their community has become more complex,” states JoAnna Reagan, MCC board member and organizer of the meeting. “We are pleased that the people responsible for the local media have accepted our invitation to take part in a lively discussion of this important topic.”.......
Taking part in the forum will be John Hamilton, founder of ThePineTree.Net, Buzz Eggleston, editor and general manager of the Calaveras Enterprise, Craig Cassidy, editor of the Union Democrat, Dana Nichols, mother lode reporter for the Stockton Record, Mark Truppner, program manager of radio station KVML, and Ross Alford of the Mountain Chronicle. Among the topics to be covered will be how each panelist sees his medium’s role in the community, the increased use of electronic technology, and the pros and cons of letters to the editor and web comments. For organizations and others who want to have their messages communicated there will be helpful tips. The economics of the local media will also be discussed.
“Communities throughout our country have for decades used the Town Hall format to discuss issues of common interest,” says Reagan. “As always, we invite everyone to join us, listen to the presentations, ask questions, and to share their opinions.”
Following the more formal part of the meeting, there will be a social period following when conversations can continue.
Murphys Community Club presents Town Hall Meetings several times a year. The goal is to bring neighbors together with civic leaders to discuss subjects of mutual interest.
