Another Letter to the Editor~by Hugo and Sharon Scotto

July 21, 2009
Dear Editor..Let’s just think about this! I’m assuming some of you like to do that! In several years, we are going to have a new multimillion dollar prison here in our county. We didn’t vote for it but some of you did! It will be too big for just our locals so they will be shipping in “pillars of society” from all over our state and their families will come here too. Many families will be on welfare so our welfare office will have to be enlarged. The state will be giving us more money (if they have any left) to hire prison guards and welfare workers. Convicted prisoners from all over the state will be hoping to be sent here to our prison where they will have the best TV’s, the most TV channels and the best exercise rooms!!!....

But where is Calaveras County going to get tax revenue? How about a big beautiful golf course called Trinitas! Moneyed people from all over the states will come here to play on this golf course. Maybe they will even have several tournaments that will be televised. Can you imagine the revenue this county will bring in? The businesses will thrive, we might even get a department store in Valley Springs where you can buy underwear and pj’s and maybe even another grocery store for a little competition!

Now to Kathy Meyhew! Can you imagine inviting Kathy to dinner and she pulls out her pictures. “Oh, you’ve got to see my newest pictures, Maude! Here is one I took on Tuesday when the Nemees took four people out to play golf on their golf course! Can you imagine!!! And here is one I took on Wednesday, when they took seven people out to play golf!” “Yes, Kathy, could we talk about something else, Pleeease?” Kathy is eventually going to run out of friends and will be forced to move to another county so she will have someone to talk to! (Boo hoo!)

We need to have a positive vision for the future of Calaveras County. We can’t let nay-sayers lead us astray! Our county is going to grow! Every place where it’s great to live, is going to grow! Do we want to be known for the county with the biggest and best prison or do we want to be known for the county with the best golf courses , hotels, restaurants and lakes! I don’t know about you, but I think we could use a few more good restaurants! And we certainly could use another hotel in the Valley Springs area!

I just can’t imagine the people of our county just sitting by and watching while three jealous supervisors and “a Kathy” destroy the Nemee family and their beautiful golf course. I’ve been told by some people that Trinitas is much nicer and more of a challenge to golfers than the other golf courses in our county. I wonder if the owners of the other golf courses are afraid that Trinitas will take away some of their business?

WE, the people of Calaveras County need to take this into our hands and tell the three supervisors what we want. And you golfers out there, if you don’t want to see a great golf course destroyed (for no reason), speak up or write a letter to the Editor. Trinitas golf course, club house and hotel would be one of the greatest additions to this county we could ever make. The future will prove it! We just need the foresight to see it!"
