Christina Welch named as Stanislaus National Forest Deputy Supervisor ~by Pat Kaunert
Sonora, Calif. (July 21, 2009)… Christina Welch, currently the Field Manager on the Central Oregon Resource Area of the Prineville District of the BLM in Oregon, will be the new Deputy Forest Supervisor of the Stanislaus National Forest in Sonora, U.S. Forest Service officials announced today.....
"Christina has a diverse background with the BLM and Forest Service, I am very excited she will be joining us in the Stanislaus National Forest,” said Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor, Susan Skalski. "Christina is known for building coalitions, working collaboratively with partners, and being able to think creatively,” said Skalski. “She will be a great addition to our leadership team.”
In her 28-year career, Welch has previous work experience with the Forest Service as Staff Officer for Recreation, Engineering, Archaeology, Lands (realty), and Minerals on the Ochoco National Forest and Civil Engineer on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. She has completed details as Field Manager for the El Centro Resource Area in 2004 and as acting Forest Supervisor on the Ochoco National Forest in 2002.
Welch has held her current position with BLM since 2000 where she supervises field operations in over 800,000 acres of public land, with the full complement of natural resources and issues, including Wild and Scenic Rivers, wildernesses, endangered species, grazing and vegetation management.
”I am looking forward to meeting the people, exploring the forest, and engaging in the issues on the Stanislaus. This is an exciting move for me,” said Welch.
Welch received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University. She is married with two grown children and enjoys weaving, gardening, and painting with water colors. Welch expects to arrive on the Stanislaus National Forest by mid September.
