7. PUBLIC COMMENTS: 5 minutes per person; 15 minutes per topic.
Bonnie Newman, Valley Springs, CA spoke of a Federal Judge blocking the pay cut for In-Home Health Care Workers. She referenced an article stating that health care workers are to receive a 25 percent pay raise on July 1, 2009. She asked to be notified of the status.
Tim McSorley, Director/Council of Governments, reminded the Board of 2 events, next week, regarding the opening of the Angels Camp Bypass project. Tuesday afternoon, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., there will be a series of celebrations with vendors and various activities. Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. will be the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the bypass. McSorley further informed that the Valley Springs Circulation Plan is moving forward.

07/14/2009 SUMMARY


Bonnie Newman, Valley Springs, CA revisited the subject of the pruning of her trees on Double Springs Road. She gave a demonstration on the proper technique for the pruning of trees.
Jim Turley, SEIU representative, read into the record a press release from the Calaveras County Chapter, SEIU Local 1021, regarding the County’s current economic condition, suggestions/proposals submitted to Administration, and asking that elected officials and appointed directors to take a close look at the contributions and sacrifices of the County’s 240 union members and recognize that the ability to sacrifice does have a limit.
Bonnie Newman, Valley Springs, CA read into the record a letter to the editor regarding her idea on how to save money. She referred to her idea, regarding funding for the Public Authority, as “The Two Million Dollar Boondoggle”. She questioned if the Agency is worth further funding and asked the Board to reconsider their position in regards to the Public Authority. The letter suggested sending the money back to the State and telling them that the PA in Calaveras County has not worked effectively enough to continue funding. Newman felt that the money might be better used elsewhere.

Supervisor Wilensky will attend a Behavioral Health Job Committee meeting this afternoon; tomorrow, a Mother Lode Job Training Board meeting in Sonora; Thursday evening will leave for Hayfork to attend a National Forest Foundation funded trip to view a project in Trinity County, that most resembles this County’s CHIPs project; referenced a call from Heidi Sanborn, with the California Products Stewardship Council, offering a presentation/study session regarding extended producers taking the responsibility for items requiring recycling.
Tomorrow, Supervisor Tofanelli will attend a meeting in Sacramento with the Corp of Engineers regarding Cosgrove Creek followed by a 3:30 meeting with Ann Reardon, of Calaveras/Amador Hospice; next Monday will fill in for Chair Thomas at a LAFCO meeting; spoke of participating in a tour of Lake Tulloch last week.
Supervisor Callaway will attend a Calaveras Public Power Agency meeting this week; Thursday, the Calaveras Visitors Bureau function.
Chair Thomas will attend tomorrow’s meeting with the Corp of Engineers regarding Cosgrove Creek; will not be present for next week’s Board meeting.
Robert Lawton, County Administrative Officer, had nothing to bring before the Board at this time.
James Jones, County Council, spoke of a Court decision regarding the rim fee – the claim stated that the Board acted hastily in selecting the roads to be included in the rim fee – the Court finding stated that the Board did not act hastily in adopting Ordinance No. 2777 – to the contrary, a public hearing process was conducted and worked as intended – it resulted in a deliberate evolution of projects to be funded by the rim fee.
