Merchant of Venice Now Playing July 3rd Through August 8th at Stevenot Amphitheatre ~Chat With The Cast Enclosed
Murphys, CA...Murphys Creek Theater is hard at work for the opening of Merchant of Venice at one of the best venues around. The Cornelia B. Stevenot Memorial Amphitheatre will also open for it's 2009 run with this play. We had the pleasure to stop by earlier this week as the cast was going through their paces. With all his fortunes tied up at sea, Antonio borrows money from Shylock for his friend Bassanio. Amused by Shylock's request of 1 pound of flesh if the loan is default, Antonio gladly accepts the money lender's proposition. Fate turns against him, however, and Shylock comes to claim his due. Unable to intervene on Antonio's behalf, the distraught Bassanio, finds an advocate in his love, Portia, skilled enough to sway the Venitian council and spare Antonio's life.
