November Elections to be held for vacant Raggio seat ~By John Hamilton Updated with Video

Angels Camp, CA...The bulk of the Angels Camp City Council meeting on Tuesday afternoon and evening was devoted to efforts to pick new City Council member to fill the vacant Paul Raggio seat. The Council conducted interviews from a very talented field of which any of the applicants would have been very capable of stepping into the breach. Alas it was not to be as the Council deadlocked between Jack Johnson, Rick Downey and Donnie Brooksher. Even their new "Chip" method failed to get them to a clean winner...

Jack Johnson, George Fry, Donnie Brooksher, Rick Downey and Anne Forrest vied for the position on Tuesday.

Jack Johnson even offered to pull his name from the list if that would get the Council any closer to a decision. Anne Forrest, Rick Downey, George Fry, Donnie Brooksher and Jack Johnson interviewed for the job.

George Fry had the largest support group in the audience. CCWD Board members Bob Dean and Ed Rich were there to show their support along with members of George's family and friends. Lew and Kathy Mayhew of Keep It Rural Calaveras were also in attendance.

Now it is on to a November Election to pick a successor. There are many in the community who see this as a waste of funds as it will cost the City to hold an election. The field will also probably change. On Tuesday evening only George Fry and Rick Downey indicated they were in for the November Contest.

They will be running for the remaining year of Councilman Raggio's term.

We have video of each Candidates opening statements of why they would like the position below...
