Bear Valley Village Final Environmental Impact Report Approved 4-1 at Special Board Meeting in Bear Valley ~By John Hamilton Video Enclosed
Bear Valley, CA...The Cathedral Lounge in the Bear Valley Lodge played host to one of the most important meetings in the future of Bear Vally on Friday night. The Alpine County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting to decide the fate of the Final Environmental Impact Report on the new Bear Valley Village. This process has has lasted years and incorporated over 300 comments and concerns from interested parties. Attending the meeting and voicing last minute objections were representatives from the Calaveras County Planning department and John Buckley from the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center. Caltrans also submitted written objections less than three hours before the meeting was to begin....

You may recall the public unveiling of the project 3 years ago at a series of public presentations. At the core of the new project will be a Village Lift that will transform Bear Valley into a true Ski In - Ski Out community. Plans also call for several hundred acres of additional skiable terrain on the village side of the mountain. Also included are plans for a revitalized commercial center and also several hundred new residential units.
This has been a very complex process with approval required by not only the county but the Forest Service as well. The Forest Service approvals have been covered by the EAR process. There have been meetings and comment periods on the Forest Service side as well as the County process.
The Cornerstone is undoubtedly the Village Lift. In towns such as Park City Utah extending lift service to the downtown area had significant positive impacts to not only business activity but property values as well.
We have tried to include quite a few documents for your background information as well the include over 900 pages of EIR documents as well as the objections raised by Calaveras County and Caltrans.
