The Copperopolis Fire Department Melodrama Was a Great Time!
Copperopolis, CA....Well, its official, the Copperopolis Fire Department Melodrama titled “The Great Dog Sled Race of Mooselip” or “Sarah Lee gets Frosted” was a knee slapping, belly laughing, villain booing good time. The cast: Linda Beck, Director, creator known as Willie the Beaver shooter; Bryan Santos, an Indian by the name of Horse running free through forest by river that kiss mountain under blue sky (yes you read that right);Stacey Nolan as.....
Cupcake; Nick Maness as Preston Starched; Maggie Rollings as Mrs. Sarah Lee; Don Rollings as Captain Merrill Lee; Barbara Cheney as Beulah the Skunk hunter; Charity Maness as Mercy Less; and last but most certainly not least our evil villain Frenchie La Shaft played by the talented Guy Andress.
The doors opened at 6:30 on Friday night and the patiently waiting crowds moved in. There was music, laughter, talk, food and wine.
This is not just an annual Volunteer Fire Department melodrama folks, this is a community get together that people look forward to each year with much anticipation. It was so much fun to see people getting together and swapping tales, catching up on each others’ lives, and basically renewing friendships.
When the lights went down a magical hush fell over the crowd, that is until the curtain pulled back and Barbara Cheney came out dressed like hillbilly toting around her freshly found skunk skins and a live skunk hanging out of her back pocket. Well it was alive until she accidentally sat on it. And that is where the audience had their first fits of laughter and that laughter continued on throughout the whole play.
If I haven’t said it enough, fun was had by all. I look forward to next year’s melodrama!
