Tribute Exhibit to Two Murphys Artists
Two well-known and cherished artists from Murphys will be honored with their own show in Gallery Calaveras during May. The Calaveras Arts Council is featuring the works of Sarah Evans and Lura Francis in an exhibit titled “Murphys Golden Girls.” Both have been professional artists nearly all of their lives.....
The show opened May 9 and runs through June 10. Gallery Calaveras is located at 22 Main Street in San Andreas. Hours of Gallery Calaveras are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekdays; 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays. For more information, call the Calaveras Arts Council at (209)754-1774.
Lura Francis paints in watercolor and her work is in collections throughout the United States, England, France, Germany, Spain, and Japan. She has won numerous awards in juried shows across the country including the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
Sarah Evans is an impressionist oil painter who paints to capture the color and pattern of what she sees. Color is the key word, how it is affected by sunlight, especially in gardens, her signature subject, but she also paints landscapes.
