Bear Valley, CA....“Our 40th Anniversary season was outstanding last year and we intend to build on that success as we begin our next forty years,” states Randy Hanvelt, President of the Bear Valley Music Festival Board of Directors. The Bear Valley Music Festival will be staged July 25 though August 9 amid the majestic beauty of the Sierras off California State Highway 4 just beyond the Calaveras County border. .....

“We are offering a wide variety of musical presentations designed to please all members of the family and varied musical tastes,” says Hanvelt. “And in response to many requests we are bringing back opera to the festival.”

Once again the festival has engaged the talents of Caroline Schirato of Angels Camp as Executive Director. She has served in this capacity for five years and is well known for staging events and conferences throughout the state.
Beginning his 26th year as Music Director and Conductor will be Carter Nice. Maestro Nice has conducted over 200 performances of the Bear Valley Symphony including opera productions. Carter has served as Concertmaster for the Florida Symphony Orchestra and the New Orleans Philharmonic. He was Music Director for the Sacramento Symphony 1979-1992 and the Music Director for the Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra.

One of the outstanding features of the festival will be the premiere performance by the winner of the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition that will be held May 22 through June 7 in Fort Worth, Texas. Those wishing to view the progress of this prestigious competition can be informed by visiting the Cliburn.org website and registering for the live webcast.

In addition to the performances that take place in an acoustically designed temporary building, they are offering a number of other attractions including a community barbecue, jazz guitar master class, silent movie with piano, opera master class, and Teddy Bear Picnic.

“We are pleased to have held the line on ticket prices,” says Hanvelt. “We have several attractive packages in addition to individual tickets at various price ranges.”

Tickets go on sale the beginning of May and may be ordered by visiting the festival website at www.bearvalleymusic.org or by calling toll free (800) 458-1618.

The Bear Valley Music Festival is a non-profit 501©3 organization governed by a board of sixteen people from throughout California who volunteer their time to make sure this time honored musical celebration continues to provide a unique and satisfying experience for all attendees. In addition to Hanvelt, the current board members are Robert Bess, Susan Doyles-Steffens, Buzz Eggleston, Barbara Goodrich, Ann Hicks, Sean Hogan, Leonora Holmes, Don Jacobberger, Kira Kryak, Susi Lewis, Barbara Maher, Shelley Mathews, Gloria Miller, Lil Runge, and Martin Wegenstein. Donation to the festival are tax deductible.
