Will Levi be Able to Ride? Levi Leipheimer has entered Saturday's Copperopolis Road Race ~By John Hamilton
San Andreas, CA....One subject that jumped out at the famous "Public Comment" portion of the Board of Supervisors meeting this morning was about an issue we heard while out and about yesterday. Tour De France podium finisher and the 2009, 2008 and 2007 Tour of California Winner, and former Copperopolis Road Race Winner, Levi Leipheimer is slated to compete in this weekend's Copperopolis Road Race. This race which is affectionately known in cycling circles as the Paris–Roubaix of California always draws the elite Cyclists from all over California has over 600 registered entrants. Unfortunately the race still has a bit of cobblestone to ride over before the 26th Annual running of the event to can take place. There was a mix-up with the permit application...

by promoter Velo Promo that delayed his application. Velo Promo's Bob Liebold addressed the Board this morning and implored the board to help where they could to ensure that the race will go on.
In all likelihood the race will be spinning it's way through the rolling, green covered Copperopolis Hills this Saturday as all that stands in the way is Interim CDA Director Bret Harrington fast tracking the permit. Mr. Liebold brought completed applications for the next three years to make sure the event permit doesn't slip through the cracks again. We saw lots of scurrying around so I would assume things are progressing.
The Paris-Roubaix is a punishing one-day Classic that is a fixture on the European racing season and parts of it are run over a cobblestone course that is punishing to say the least. The rural Calaveras pays a wonderful tribute to the spirit of the tough European course.
Below is from Velo Promo on the course and event. If Course: This is the same course as always: Milton, Rock Creek, Salt Spring Valley, Hunt, Milton Roads, counter clockwise loop. A 21 mile loop of fair to bad paving, two climbs and a fast, bumpy, twisty descent. Strong wheels, thick tires and no loose water bottle holders or dentures recommended. Tighten all your bolts (including brakes, brake hoods, seat bolts and stem bolts)! Please riders, use the facilities and stay off of private property!! No gas or phones available in Milton.
