A Poignant and Touching Calaveas County Board of Supervisors Meeting ~By John Hamilton

San Andreas, CA...It was a somber meeting that District 2 Supervisor Steve Wilensky led off with a moment of silence for the families and communty of Mountain Ranch. The Agenda Items paled when compared to the public comments on the tragic accident that claimed 4 young lives on Mountain Ranch Road. The discussion centered on what improvements could be made to prevent accidents like this one from happening again. Community members including Tammy Montgomery who lost three children in a moment of time and CHP Lieutenant Tim Port spoke. The sometimes rowdy Board Chambers acquired an almost church like atmosphere for quite some time...

Grieving Mother Tammy Montgomery, Cynthia Sanchez and CHP Lieutenant Port

Lieutenant Port said that there were no obvious problems with Kallie Montgomery's car or indications of excessive speed.

Other people of note to address the board on other items included COG Director Tim McSorley on what impacts the Federal Stimulus program might have here locally. Also addressing the board was Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospitals Larry Cornish on the latest at the hospital.

All of the agendized items moved forward with the exception of the Pool Station development that will be pushed back for 4 weeks.

In a small county like Calaveras Tuesday mornings in the Board Chambers is always "The Show" or the focal point for the community. This week the sense of human drama and community grief made the normal wranglings over zoning, budgetary items and golf courses that usually fill the chamber seem almost silly
