Murphys Hotel Wins Lengthy Sign Battle~By Andrea Silva

After months and months of jumping through legal hoops the Murphys Hotel has finally won the right to put up the first official neon sign in the historic downtown area of Murphys, California. The sign was installed today, where an old rotted out tree once stood. While the electric sign is high tech, it still manages to have a vintage air to it with a support that mimics a period lantern post, and a muted forest green coloring......

Some locals scoffed at the impending installation for fear that it would detract from the historical district however, in the daylight, the sign seems to fit right in. Most passers by didn't even notice the new addition to the quiet tree-lined street. It wasn't until they came upon the bright orange safety cones peppering the sidewalk that they curiously looked up and took notice.

The official lighting ceremony will take place this Saturday at 7pm. The neon lettering states "Murphys Hotel, Fine Dinning, Est. 1856" and displays the room availability with a "No Vacancy" hanging tandem at the bottom. Once lit, a martini glass with an olive and straw will also be visible on the top of the sign.
