Grizzly Plaza Fire Affects Three Local Business Owners ~ By Hanna Alldrin
Arnold, CA....At about 1:30 am on Christmas Eve morning, Ebbetts Pass Fire received a call for a structure fire at the Grizzly Plaza in Arnold. Units were able to respond quickly and contained the fire to the left twenty-five percent of the building. Although the building wasn't a total loss three business were severely effected by the smoke damage. Many people believe the heat and flames is the main destructive force in a structure fire, however the dangers of smoke damage can be far more worse.....

This dangerous mixture of chemicals and toxins is harmful to your health and your property. Most damage done to a property is the result of smoke. Salon Soleil, Curves and Needle in Motion were a loss do to smoke damage. The extent of smoke damage and the ease with which it is cleaned away is often based on the type of smoke in the building: wet, dry, protein and fuel-oil. Wet smoke comes from low heat and is quite difficult to clean. Dry smoke is the result of a fast burning fire at high temperatures. Protein smoke is invisible, but discolors varnishes and has a distinct and extremely foul odor. Fuel-oil soot smoke is a result of a furnace malfunction.
I spoke with Salon Soleil owner, Vicki Sanchez, who reopened her salon last Monday, after three long weeks of cleaning, preparing, and working hard. Although, the fire and smoke was a big disappointment and shocking, Vicki along with the other two owners are keeping the past behind them and reopening their business, bigger and better than before. "This can happen to anyone and unfortunately it was us, but we are ready to open our doors for the community," shared Vicki.
A lot of local construction companies, including Pioneer electric and many more local people worked quickly repairing the damage and helping Vicki to reopen her doors. At this time Vicki is the only business back open, others plan on reopening soon. "We appreciate the patience and support of our community through this whole process," said Vicki.
Vicki along with her daughter Lauren Love are concerned about the outward appearance of the building, concerns are that they wont be able to fulfill their mission to offer a unique, professional and relaxing environment while keeping ourselves educated to offer the finest service and products available. So, don't let the building turn you away now, in the future the building owners are planning on giving it a facelift making it a prime location for business owners. Salon Soleil is OPEN, OPEN, OPEN and offer a wide variety of great services to our community including: A contemporary full service salon for men, women and children, colors, cuts, perms, manicures, pedicures, and waxing.
