Yosemite, CA...“On behalf of Yosemite National Park, we would like to express our deepest condolences for the loss of the Cal Fire pilot, Geoffrey “Craig” Hunt, who lost his life yesterday fighting the Dog Rock Fire in the park,” stated Don Neubacher, Yosemite National Park Superintendent. “He died while providing a great public service and we share in the mourning and sadness of this loss with our Cal Fire brothers and sisters. Wildland firefighting is an inherently dangerous job and we thank Cal Fire for all their support and sacrifice. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.” The Dog Rock Fire, which began October 7, 2014 in afternoon near El Portal, is currently at 246 acres, with 10% containment....

Yosemite, CA...We are saddened to report that this afternoon one of our S2T air tankers crashed while fighting the Dog Rock Fire in Yosemite National Park. The rescue personnel are at scene working through extremely rough terrain to determine the condition of our pilot. Please join us in keeping our Pilot and their family in our thoughts and prayers...

Crash of Airtanker Claims the Life of Pilot |

Yosemite, CA...This evening emergency personnel were able to access the crash site of a CAL FIRE airtanker that had crashed near Yosemite National Park and determined that the pilot on board had died. The CAL FIRE airtanker (Tanker 81) based out of the Hollister Air Attack Base had been fighting the Dog Rock Fire near El Portal when officials lost contact with it late this afternoon. The pilot’s family has requested we withhold release of the pilot’s name until all immediate family can be notified....

San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, is reminding all residents the burn suspension is still in effect, until further notice. Fire danger remains above average across the Central Sierras and, even though we have recently experienced some moisture and cooler temperatures, the chance of large and damaging fires still exists....

Mountain Ranch, CA....Fire fighters from multiple agencies worked residential structure fire that displaced residents in an early morning fire yesterday. The fire was reported at 2:30am and a home and most of it's contents were a total loss. The fire extended into vegetation and burned a 30' x 30' spot as well... Additional details are enclosed....

Deep reservoirs can be a challenge to fish. Some anglers consider fishing in 20-30' of water as deep water fishing. On a reservoir like New Melones, fish can be caught as deep as 70-90' of water. It is very important when you catch fish from deep water to use a fizzing needle to deflate their air bladder. A good approach to eliminate water is to start looking shallow and work your way out to deep water. ...

San Andreas, CA....Last evening a home destroyed and a vehicle and two acres of vegetation were also burned. We checked in with TCU Command and one resident was displaced by the fire and Red Cross was brought in to assist the victim. TCU Command does not have any injuries on their log at this time but pending full report there was scanner traffic for burn injuries to the resident...

Yosemite, CA....The Big Oak Flat Road (Highway 120) in Yosemite National Park has been reopened to vehicular traffic on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. The road was temporarily closed due to fire activity related to the El Portal Fire. All other roads within the park, including the Tioga Road, are open and clear, with the exception of the Foresta community access road, which remains closed at this time. Crane Flat, Yosemite Creek, and Bridalveil Creek Campgrounds remain closed. All other park campgrounds remain open....
